LOSS OF THE "EGYPT."
Brest. May 23, The Mayor and the English and American Consuls were pre- sant at a solemn cervice of burial of the bodies picked up after the sinking of the P. & O. 8.5. Egypt.
Details of the disaster, as unfolded, make a story combining poignancy with inspiring examples of heroism. A man who placed his wife, child and baby in a boat was appalled to see one rope break, precipitating the occupants into the sea. Thereafter the second rope snapped and the boat fell on those shaken out. The wife. and children were lost but the man was saved. The ship's printer, who was unable to swim, surrendered his lifebelt to a weman and himself perished. The senior wireless operator died sending out S.0.5. The mystery of a comparatively small vessel inflicting damage capable of sinking the Egypt in twenty minutes is ex- plained by the fact that the Seine was specially constructed for service on the ice-strewn Northern sens.
roll is now
A wireless query sent broadcast yesterday seeking news of further survivors yielded no response. The death ecially given as 16 passengers and 86 crew,
Doctor Bremner, medical steer of the Egypt, who was drown- ed, returned from China only a fortnight ago. Dr. Bremner was one those of who remained aboard to the last. He clung to a deck chair, near another officer, to whom he said, “Goodbye, old chap, I am going under." He then let go and disappeared.

Bonar Law Wik surprised to learn from M. Poincare that one ally was entitled to art aline under the Treaty. If that was so, then another ally was entitled to way it would have nothing to do with it. Such a condition of things would play directly into Germany's hands.
