THE HOSPITAL FIRE,

Rame. May 19. The fire at the Holy Ghost Hospital which is the oldest and most famous in Reme, housing 300 patients, broke out at midnight in the laundry rooms and was unnoticed until the dames burst from the wards. The electric wires were severed, plunging the wards into darknsa and necessitating helpers using torches, thus adding to the inmates" terror. The majority of the deaths occurred in the chronic ward where the patients dragged themselves cut of their beds and gathered in a corner of the floor which collapsed, precipitat- ing 20 persons below who were followed by burning wood and bedd- diag. There after, most of the patierts ware let down in sheets through the windows, owing to the precariousness of the stairs. Twenty fire engines succeeded in circumscribing th area of the condagration which was finally extinguished at ten this morning. Most of the victims were between 30 and 70 years of age.

CO-ORDINATING WIRELESS.

London, May 19.

The Postmastertieheral has conferred in London with 20 re- presentatives of the principal wireless companies with the object of framing a systematic scheme, establishing stations and co-ordinat- ing material which might be sent broadcast for wireless. It is an- nounced that wave lengths will be limited in order not to interfere with_hipping, air and other services. The Government will pro- bably reserve the right to use broadcasting stations and "ssue Irenses necessary for receiving sets, even homemade.
