A cablegram from New York. reports that the Canard, liner Mauretania reached there having completed the run from South. ampton in 5 days 12 hours 17, minutes. She took the longer southern route af 3,161 miles ow- ing to the presence of ice in the *Northern Ailsatic, and the run

averaged 23.93 knots per hour, the fastest voyage of any liner since the war. The faá) 483 mites was completed at the mean speed of 25.31 knots. This was the vessel's first voyage after being converted into an oil fuel burner and greater speeds are anticipat ed in the future. The Mauretania holds the Atlantic speed record of 26.06 knots per hour made about fourteen years ago.

The Royal National Life-Bost Institution has now completed the plans of the largest mator life-boat in the world. She will be 60-ft. long with 15-it, beam, | draft-of 4-ft: 6-in. and' a' displace- ment of about 40 toas.
