Danish 17, American 3, Russian 2 and Italian 2. The total tonnage for the year was 492,812, of which 212,182 tons were British, 117,850 toos Siamme, 77,787 tons Japan- ese, 25.603 tons Norwegian, and 17,030 tons Danish. Four British steamabis lines now serve the port regularly, but the most pron. inent feature of the year was the increase in the number of Japanese vessels, and the decrO 390 of those from Norway, which was | brought about by the Japanese offering cheaper rates to Biamese charterers than their Scandina vian competitors. The effect of the probibition of rice exporta was very serious, as may be gauged from the fact that during the six years 1913-14 to 1918-19 BD average of 950 vessels, repres enting a tonnage of 812,000, were cleared inwards annually, this being about 40 per cent higher than the figures for 1920-21. This also scoounts for the sharp' decline from the PLOTIONS year's totals, which wore 639. vessels of 581,390 tons.
