THE "ROMA" AIRSHIP DISASTER.

Rescue parlies nt soldiers and civilians working in the debris of the army dirigible. Rome, wrecked and ravaged by flames at Norfolk USA. This photograph, taken shortly after the disaster, shows the search for bodies of victims. In the centre rescuers are shown removing the charred body of one of those who lost his life in the accident.

-Derricks were requisitioned by rescue parties, to lift the forward end of the giant airship, Roma, so that the search for bodies would be unhampered."The huge steel fram - work was smashed and beat by the explosion, Imprisoning many victims in that part of the wreckage pictured here.

As the Roms exploded and fell, the rudder was left hanging on a telephone polë,"a

landmark to the thousands crowding to the scene.
