Steps to be Taken to Prevent Profiteering.

The Colonial Secretary's Officé forwarded last night for publica. tion the following statement of the Government's measures in the community's behalf:

A Committee, which has direct access to these responsible for the essential services of the Colony, has been established to give effect to the Onlinance passed on the 28th February, 1929.

The Committet has investigated the question of the supply of Foodstuffs including Flour and Rice Coal and Firewood. Arrangements are being mode that such supplies as are ordinarily imparted daily shall continue as uninterruptedly as possible. Steps are being taken to prevent prices unduly rising.

Distribution of the above commodities is in curse of arrange- ment, and even detailed distribution is being provided for with the assistance of the Community.

The Pass Office for the lasue of Passes to leave the Colony is in being at the Central Police Station.

Protection of the public and determined action with regard to thise who may attempt to undermine the well-being of the Cez- munity has been carefully dealt with, and the maintenance of law and order is fully provided for. It is, therefore, unnecessary, f for ordinary business life to be interrupted.

There are several ships in the Harbour Iraded with Rice which must be discharged as rapidly as possible for the benent of the public. otherwise this commodity will deteriorate and cause suf- fering. Arrangements are being made for it to be unloaded: E is requested that owners of godown space should notify the Assistant Colonial Secretary of the extent, cature and whereabouts of their Varilities, in order that supplies may be adequately stored and duly distributed a reasonable prices.
