actual sites for the stations pro-' posed by that Committee, and to advise generally on the prepara- tion ofspecificationsfor machinery: and apparatus, the making of contracts, and the constraction of the stations.

The general recommendations of the Commission are that the transmitting stations in England. Canada, Australia, the Union of South Africa, India, and Egyp: should be equipped with ther- mionic valve plant, but that in view of the skilled attention! demanded by that plant in its present stage of development and also of the isolated nature of the stations in East Africa, Singapore, and Hongkong. these three stations should be equipped for combined arc-valve transmission. arcs alone being installed imme-] diatelyjand valve plant added after practice has become standardized.
