THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPH.
EARLIER TELEGRAMS,
THE PREMIERS' MEETING.
London, Feb. 27. The French newspapers express undisguised satisfaction at the results of the Boulogna meeting. Tha accord attained likewise sroked general approbation in Britain, though" Indapandent Libera! rgans are inclined to be critical. The Daily News terms the re- sult a diplomatie victory for M. Poincare. The Chronicle is of the pinion that the prospect of future Anglo-French co-operation was lert brighter than at any time since the abrupt collapse at Cannes. It reports that M. Poincare is making less exacting demands regarding the proffered Anglo-French part, which he is disposed to accept with a duration extended to twenty years.
THE IRISH SITUATION.
London, Feb. 27.
Conferences with the Irish delegates seem to have reassured Cabinet Ministers regarding the significance of the postponement of the Irish elections. It is reported that Mr. Griffith was able to convince them that the truce with the De Valeraites was a step in favour of the peace party in Ireland and it is anticipated that the Free State Bill will be proceeded with in slightly amended form. Mr. Griffith, interviewed, said that the British Government waA standing by the terms of the treaty, which he and his colleagues" zis intended to carry out in the spirit and letter.
PROHIBITION IN AMERICA.
Washington, Feb. 27.
The executive committee of the Federation of Labour has made
a statement appealing for a campaigo for the repeal of probibition and the substitution of a measure permitting the sale of light wines and beer. It denounces the Act 23 2 social and moral failure and contends that there is a general disregard of the law

THE EQUITABLE INSURANCE SCANDAL
The latest sensational development in the Equitable Insurance affair is the Daily Mails report from Naples that London has tele- graphed ordering the arrest of the chairman, Mr. Bevan, last seen at Naples, where, it is reported, he tried to get a visa for Constan- nople. Meanwhile the Official Receiver has stated that it appears the Company's diuulties were caused by highly speculative dealing entered into by the company largely by the act and under the Zirection of Bevan, adding that the balance sheet issued in Feb- ruary 1921, did not disclosed the true position of affairs.
KEMALIST MISSION.
Constantinople. Feb. 27. Yusuf Kemal, Nationalist Foreign Minister, with other mem- bers of a mission to the Entente capitals, are leaving on Monday for Marseilles. Yusuf, who openly declared that the only govern- ment for Turkey was the Angora Government, succeeded, despite the opposition of the Cabinet, in jobtaining a long and secret audience with the Sultan. It is not yet clear whether the Kemalists have succeeded in what they covet, namely, imperial end:rsement
