The Landon newspapers give prominence to a lengthy cable from the Broken Hill Proprietary. explaining that the Industrial Court's regulations, artificially [sustaining high wages, render it necessary to curtail operations in Newcastle, and imparil the ex- istence of the steal industry in Australis... The Financial Times, commenting on this and the re fusal of the Mount Morgan miners to accept the Arbitration Court's award reducing wages 20 par cent states: Australia for a long time past has bean known as the Paradise of Labour. It looks as though a sharp lesson will be required to demonstrate to the Australian worker that his paradise is of the kind appertain ing to fools."

PHILIPPINE BUREAU COMMERCE.

The Directors of the Chamber of Commerce of the Philippine Islands bare passed a resolution putting the Chamber on record as against the proposed abolition of the Berean of Commerce and Industry. The resolution was in reply to the recommendation of the finance commission to the affect that the baresu should be discontinued and its activities shifted to othar governmant bureaus and offices. The members of the chamber claim that the suspension of the burean would karm merchants and business. men in the islands, who general- ly carry on their business transaction with the other coun- tries through it. They also fear its abolition would end the the Philippines dealing with spreading of information about

its economic possibilities."
