THE IRISH DEADLOCK.
How It Came About.
(Reuter's Fervice.)
London, February S. Sir James Craig interviewed Mr. Churchill at the Colonial Office to-day with reference to the deadlock on the boundaries ques- tion. Subsequently interviewed, Sir James said he suggested to Mr. Collins an adjournment of consideration of the question for a week, but Mr. Collins replied that the differances were so wide that an ad- journment would be useless. Mr. Collins produced plans making it clear that he had promised to bring into the Free State almost half of North Ireland, including the counties of Fermanagh and Tyrone, large parts of the counties of Armagh and Down, Dory City. Ea- niskillen and Newry. In the face of such proposals, uncompromis- ing resistance was imperative.
Mr. Collins Suggestions.
London, February 3.
Mr. Collins, in a statement made in Dublin, says the Treaty provided that the boundary should be decided by the inhabitants of the areas concerned. Majorities must rule, and in any map marked on that principle South Ireland bsd secured immense anti-partition areas. He urged that the whole Parliamentary representation of Ireland should meet and adopt a policy and form & Constitution. The alternative was a resumption of the old disturbances and
