There were several vessels of ļimportant size and valne put into the water on the 16th pit, at various shipyards round the coast, These included the Paris Maru, built by Mesara. Cammell Laird and Co., Birkenhead, for the Osaka 3hosen Kaisha, of Japan; Messrs. Wm. Beardmore and Co. Haunched from their yard at Dal- {muir, the twin screw stoamar Esperance Bay, the second of two motor ships which the firm have built for the Commonwealth Gor erament Line. The oil tanke. Jackson, built for the Chila Steamship Co., Now York, wan launched from the Blythswood # Shipbuilding Co.'s yard, at Glasgow.

COTTON-GROWING INDUSTRY, From the recently-inaugurated Commonwealth Trade Commis- sioner's Office at Shanghai wo have received the following: The prospects of the cotton-growing industry in Queensland are now' so good that more power and more shed accommodation will have to be provided in order to enable Australia to take full ad- vantage of her great resources in the Northern State. The Queens- land State Minister of Agri- cultare announced at Brisbane that his department would give co-operative help to all ginning companies it could in marketing the large crop in sight. The cotton coming to band was of good quality and clean, and up to date 205 tons in the seed had been received,and 16 tons of lint mano- factured from the portion that had been treated. In addition there is about 136 tons of seed for disposal.
