Verdict at the Inquest.
The trazic circumstances attending the death of Mr. H.R.C. Adam, assistant clerk of H. M. Supreme Court, Shanghai, ware inquired inte by II. M. Coroner. Mr. G. W. King, on the 21st, inst. Miss H. L. Lissad, resident at Vancouver Lodge. Sinza Road. stated tha: she occupied a TOOIT next to that of Mr. Adams. At about 145 on Sonday morning ebe was awakened by a noise in deceased's room. He was raving. and carrying on an animated con- versation, apparently talking to people who were lacking in brough the window at him. He said he would kill them if they did not stop looking in. Half an hour later witness called oat to him to be quiet and go to sleep. He made no reply, and soon after. wards be broke into a fit of sob- hing and cried for a quarter of an bour."

About 3 o'clock he jumped up and yelled that the people were looking in at the window again. He then loaded his revolver and fired through the window. "I sold you I'd kill you if you looked at me through the window again," be said. Witness beard him cock the trigger of the revolver, and walk round the room two or three timea.
She then heard him sit down on the bed, and at five minutes pas: three be fired the last shot. "That's all right, you see, that's all right," he said.

Det. Sgt. Baer, who reached the house at 3.50, said he found deccased lying on bis back on the floor, with a revolver against his left side. It appeared that he bad shot himself while sitting on the bed, the bullet passing through his head from the right temple, and striking the wall. He was taken to the General Hospits!! and died there at 6.15 without re- gaining consciousness. It was impossible for anyone to have climbed up to his window.
