GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

Brilliant Function Last Night.

TELEGRAPH.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 23, 1921.

The second of the winter series: of Government House balls, held last night, was a most enjoyable and brilliant function. Govern ment House had been, beautifully decorated for the occasion, the predominating calaar being red] and white.

As the guests arrived, they werej handed programmes at the door by two drummers of the RM.LI one being dressed up at **Santa Claus" and the other attired in a Chinese Mandarin robe. His Ex- celleney the Governor and Lady | Stubbs received the guests at the top of the stairs leading to the ballroom The Band of HMS Hawkins was in attendance and discoursed a pleasing programmie of dance music.

Owing to the Haited accommo dation in the ballroom, both the restibule and the lounge were utilised for dancing. The decora tions, which had been beautifully carried out by Mr. H. Green, of the Botanical and Forest. De- partment, were much admired festoons, composed of banyan leaves, which were gracefully bung! around the rooms; and suspended from the ceiling were lovely baskets of salvia, white chryan- themums and banyan leaves. Around the dais, where His Ex- cellency and party were accom-1 modated, stately palms, salvia, and ferns were tastefully arranged. Over the entrance to the ballroom
