PURCHASE OF TONNAGE. Many Far Eastern shipowners are considering the purchase of foreign steamships... The Nishin Kainn Kaisha andme other shipping companies in Kobe who are in direct contact with foreign countries, have been making ex- tensive inquiries. Up to the present, fourteen ships with z gross tonnage of 76,000 have been bought while the purchase of others is being negotiated. Ac- cording to a London telegram received by a Japanese firm, the question of the scrapping of naval armaments is received with much optimism in England, and the price of ships shows an ad- vancing tendency. Despite this information, the Kobe Marine Transport bas lately received many offers of ships for sale.
