Sir William Orpen, 3.A., at work on his portrait of Lord Leverbulme, which has occasioned a remarkable controversy between the peer and the painter. Lord Leverhulme com missioned at 3,000 guiness a full length portrait in his mayoral robes destined for Bolton Town Hall. Sir William auggested a sitting position as giving a "Sicer effect. Lord Leverbulme only offered 1,500 guineas—” half_rate" fo: half-length. The artist insisted that just as much paint and varnish has been used and objected to "payment at so much a foot.”
