NOTICE TO MARINERS. Notice is given that the Vine Point Channel between Vine Point and the Tungchow. Custom House to the northward of the Tungehow Banks has been buoyed. 您想 followsA red-and-black vertical striped buoy, surmounted by a Neck triangular day mark, to be known as the Vine Point Spit Buoy, has been moored in 40 feet of water on the lower end of the shoal situated between the Tungcho Banks and the lef bank of the river. From the buoy, Tunschow Custom House bears N. 43' 45' W., distant 5.7 miles; a red bucy; surmounted by a Muck cylindrical daymark, to be known sa the Vine Point Middle Buoy, has been moored in. 31 feet of water on the south- western edge of the shoal and the northern side of the channel. From the baoy. Machinery and Engineering Ex- bibition in London was a working" model illustrative of the Parsons double-reduction gearing as in- stalled in merchant-vessels. This gear case was complete in the minutest detail and was a typical example of helical gearing cut on this firm's patent methods, It+ interest from the spectacular point of view was much enhanced by the fact that it was shown with the cover partly raised so that the train of the wheels and pinions could be followed. An exhibit here, of an actual secondary pinion-one of the component parts of the double. reduction gearing-showing the one-inch pitch of the teeth, was also of mach interest. This piece weighed two tons. Another model exemplified the arrange- ment in an agine room of twin and single-screw sets of double- redaction geared turbine engines for merchant shipy. She was fitted with Parsons marine. turbine engines of 2,000 actual h.p., with an expansive ratio of 150 fold, also water-taba boiler of great power of the ex- press small tube type. The tur- bine engines consist of thres saparate turbines a high pres- aure, intermediate, sud. low pressure each driving one soTHW shaft independently.
