The Irish Bulletin, the mouthpiece of De Valera, commenting en the telegram, declares that since the beginning of the negotia- tions the British Government in speeches, letters and individual statements has continued to make sinister misrepresentations of Ireland's case, and it is of opinion that those who drafted the King's reply to the Pope knew that the phrase "Troubles in Ireland" was a dishonest discription of the British war on Irish liberties. The newspaper considers that the phrase suggested that the troubles in Ireland were troubles among the Irish people themselves, of their own seeking, and adds that this suggestion is false. The source of the Anglo-Irish war was foreign. Ita existence was due solely to the fact that the rulers of Britain sought to impose their will on Ireland and by brutal force endeavoured to rob the people of the liberty which was their natural right and ancient heritage.
