EARLIER TELEGRAMS,

THE IRISH PROBLEM.

London, Oct. 21.

Referring to the interchange of complimentary telegrams be- tween the Pope and King George on the subject of Ireland, Devalera has telegraphed the Popa, hoping that the "ambiguities" of the King's reply will not mislead him into believing that the people of Ireland own allegiance to the British King. He declares that the independence of Ireland was formally proclaimed by regularly elect- ed representatives of the people, and ratified by subsequent plebis- eites He adds that the troubles arose through the rulers of Britain seeking to impose their will on Ireland by brute force to reb the Irish of liberty. He expresses a desire for peace and friendship with Britain, but concludes that no consideration will ever induce the Trish to abandon the constancy which, through persecution and martyrdom, have proved the reality of the people's attachment to the faith of their fathers and national freedom.
