POSTPONEMENT OF IRISH CONFERENCE.
London, Oct. 18.
Last night's announcement of the postponement of the Irish Conterenca sine die gave rise to a crop of rumours to the effect that irreconcilable differences have erentuated making the break- Ing up of the Conference imminent. Itais generally agreed, how- ever, that the inference is entirely unwarranted. The Conference will probably resume at a very early date. The present position appears be that the ground should be cleared of preliminaries before the scenes are set for the main discussions and some forte of agenda he drawn up. It is stated in well-informed quarters that the kernel of the debates is not the status but the unity of Ireland and until the latter question has been disposed of little advance can be made regarding the details of the proposed new government of Ireland. Special significance therefore attaches to the unyielding pronouncement of Sir James Craig, cabled earlier. There is no doubt that the postponement of the Conference is entirely due to the preoccupations of Mr. Lloyd George whose momentous utterance on anemployment, previoualy expected immediately the House of Com-. mona met to-day, has now been postponed, the official explanation being that owing to the procedure of the House proposed Bills dealing with unemployment canust be introduced until October 19th. R is asserted, however, that it is due to the differences in the opinion of experts in working out export credits scheme.
IMPERIAL WIRELESS CHAIN.
London, Oct. 15.
Mr. F. J. Brown, Chairman of the Post Office Telephone and Telegraph Society, lecturing in London, dealt with the Imperial wireless chain. He announced that the station at Cairo would be finished at the end of the year, completing the fret link with South Africa. Two further stations will be erected in England and Egypt forming the first link with India, Singapore and Hong- kong. Mr. Brown stated that a commission of experts is engaged plan- ning the Imperial stations and is expected to complete their work in November, after which construction will be pressed on as speedily as possible.
