THE IRISH TROUBLE.
London, Oct 17, Massages from Belfast continue to report desultory dring la the streets. A young Protestant shipyard worker was found mur- dered on Saturday evening, while an official communique mentions two further minor affairs on Sunday. Order was restored by the arrival of Crown forces.
The communique adds that a number of threatening letters have been served on Protestants, giving them forty-eight hours to quit their homes or be bombed.

The trip of Zaglul Pasha, the Nationalist leader, up the Nile led to a short and ferce fight at Assiut between Zaglulites and the supporters of the Premier Adly Pasha. Sticks and stones were usad and a shot fred from the crowd, whereupen the police fired several volleys in the air. The crowd scattered. Twenty-one wère injured of whom one subsequently died. Order was restored in the Zaglul was not allowed to land. He delivered a speech from the steamer counselling the people to disperse quietly. Con- siderable crowds assembled at Sohag. Upper Egypt, to welcome Zaglul, but owing to the possibility of disorder the reception com- mittee, after consulting with the authorities, met the steamer and advised Zaglul not to land. Zaglul accordingly abandoned his visits to Sohag and Girgeh.

THE WASHINGTON CONFERENCE.
London, Oct. 17.
The Daily Express understands that the British and Dominions Governments agreed during the Imperial Conference that if the Washington Conference failed to result in an understanding regard- ing the Pacific it will be necessary to establish a new and power- ful Far Eastern feet, the strategic headquarters of which will be Singapore. The Express adds that the new fleet, if it comes into existence, will be the joint concern of the Dominions and Britain.
THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERMENTS.
London, Oct. 17.
The Times correspondent at Melbourne reports that the Interstate Labour Conference has passed a resolution in favour of making the Commonwealth the supreme governing authority in Australia, with unlimited powers, the States having only such functions as the Commonwealth confers. The resolution provides for the abolition of the Senate, also vesting final jurisdiction in all causes in the High Court and disallowing the acceptance of Imperial honours by Australian citizens.
