USES FOR RUBBER.

The Rubbergrowers Association's competition for the best suggestions as to new uses for rubber has resulted in the first prize of a thousand pounds sterling being awarded to suggestion for the use of spenge rubber in filling chairs, couches, cushions and for ether purposes in the furniture trade. Five hundred pounds sterling each has been awarded for suggestions as to the use of liquid rubber in conjunction with paint as a preservative of wood and metal against the corrosion of seawater and the use of rubber as mudguards of motorcars. Ten prizes of a hundred pounds sterling have been awarded for other suggestions.

There were a number of consolation prizes. There were two thousand entries.

TRADING WITH RUSSIA.

London, Oct. 13.

Sir Robert Horne in a speech at Glasgow said that the plan of trading with Russia was defeated by the Russian famine and the anxiety of the extremists in Russia to send gold on propaganda rather than on goods.
