RUSSIAN FAMINE RELIEF.
Copenhagen, Sept. 29. Danmark has suspended Russian famina' fellef measures "in consequence of the refusal of the Soviet to afford adequate control: In distribution.
London, Sept. 30, Despatches from Sarato describe graphically the stubborn. |fight that is being wared against famine. It appears that the great movement of the people from their homes to places where they hapa to find od falls into three main streams, towards Siberia, the Ukraine and Turkestan.
เป
The peasants are making heroic efforts to ehsure the success of next year's harvest. The difficulty in Anding animals far plough- ing is extreme. Horses are dying fast owing to the fodder famine. Camels have been introduced eastwards of the Volga with great success as they are able to subsist on thistles and weeds, but where Beither camels nor horses are available the peasants are turning the soil with spades, working far into the night by the light of |lanterns in their anxiety to complete the winter sowing before the | show comes.

Berlin, Sept. 30.
Polish and German workmen, waiving their differences, have united in a joint demand for compensation for loss of work in- curred through the German-Pelish fighting last May and threaten a general strike unless the Inter-Allied Commission or the employers surrender. Demonstrations have been held at Oppeln, Kattowitz and Beuthen in which a quarter of a million workmen of both races marched in procession together. The Allied commissioners are sympathetic, but declare that they have no funds. The employers say that they suffered such legses through the insurrection that it
3 impossible to grant compensation.
