LEAGUE OF NATIONS PROBLEMS.
Geneva, Sept. a
Besides the Upper Silesian problem, on which the Committee is working secretly, the Assembly of the League is confronted with three territorial quarrels of its members, namely, disagreement between Polea and Lithuanians as regards possession of Vilna, the quarrel of Albania, Greece and Serbia as regards the Southern Albanian frontier and Bolivia's application for revision of her 1901 treaty with Chile. The Armaments Blockade Commission has agreed to a propesal by Lord Robert Cecil for the utmost publicity of the meetings of the Commission. M. Viviani, in a statement on the Commission's work, said that enquiries made regarding the pos sibility of limiting national expenditure on armaments were in- conclusive. Most countries interrogated insisted on the uncertainty of the political situation.

GANDHI'S FOREIGN CLOTH BOYCOTT.
Calcutta, Sept. S.
Gandhi, in pursuance of his foreign cloth boycott, has met a aamber of cloth dealers. It is understood some requested six months wherein to dispose of stocks of foreign cloth, whereafter, they said, they would not deal in such chth. The Marwari Chamber of Com- merce has passed a resolution in favour of not purchasing further foreign cloth until December 1st. in order to steady the market and help deplete accumulated stocks and thereby create a healthy atmosphere for future operations.
A BAVARIAN RIOT.
Paris, Sept. S.
It is reported from Mayence that serious rioting occurred at Spires, Bavaria, on the occasion of a workmen's demonstration in connection with the murder of Erzberger. Government offices were partly demolished and numerous arrests were made. The workmen struck to obtain the release of the imprisoned then and stormed the Government officers and police, who fired with rides. One workman was killed and many wounded.
BUSINESS RECOVERY IN-FRANCE.
Paris, Sept. 7.
In an interview in the Echo de Paris, the Minister of Commerce. M. Rior, stated that a general business recovery is to be expected before the winter. Stocks are getting depleted and orders becoming increasingir numerous. The export business is improving steadily. The Government's timely measures to help shippers are bearing fruit while the economic situation will steadily revert to normal should Germany keep meeting her obligations punctually.
NOVA SCOTIA FIRE.
Annapolis, Nova Scotia, Sept. 3. A fire, believed to have been started by a cigarette carelessly thrown down, has destroyed about one third of the town, doing damage to the extent of several hundred thousand dollars. Sumbers of people are homeless.
