The aptuma street costuma is of brickwool valour trimmed in bands of skunk. The slim straight-lined model with its buttons of the "hok velour' and' the sash effect caught with fur at the sides, has a most original cut of the skirt. This is a decided up ward curve at the front and back, Two rows of skunk accentuate this novelskirt effect. The same "curved points" also mark the larga bellshaped sleeves. The

'choker" collar is of skunk.

The hat is round-almost a large sailor except that it is slightly turned up in front and is outlined with jet. A large jet drip falls from beneath the brim almost to the shoulder. Nothing more chic than this

brick combination of

velour and skunk has been seen in the autumn fashions, so far. The shortest models will be nina inches from the ground. Of course, many of them will be longer but nothing can pass the nine-inch limit. Eight and seven inches from the ground is to be the pro- per length, according to author- ities.

DAIL EIREANN'S REPLY.

London, Aug. 26.

The official reply of Dall Eireann unanimously rejects the British offer of Dominion status for Ireland and says that it refuses powerful neighbour coveting to subordinate independence to a territory for military advantages. Dail Eireant declares that peace is attainable on the basis of a principle of government by the consent of the governed and Dail Eireann is ready to appoint representatives to negotiate such peace.

The reply goes on to say: "We sought not war, we do not seek war, but if war is made upon is we must and shall defend ourselves. We long to end the conflict between Britain and Ireland. If your Government is determined to impose its will by the age of force and before negotiation to insist on conditions involving the surrender of our whole national position and make negotiation a mockery, the responsibility for the continuance of the conflict rests with you."
