The engines run at just under 400 rp.m. for their normal output, and have ten cylinders. with a diameter and stroke of 530 ram. While no objection can be raised against the utilizationof reduction gearing, which has already proved a success, it may be doubted whether submarine engines will The found satisfactory for the Larduous conditions of mercantile work where prolonged periods of continuous running are essential.
