BATTLE ROUND IRISH M.P. HOUSE.
All day fight between Republicans & Police.
A fierce fight between a flying column of the I.R.A. and a police patrol raged for 11 hours last | month around the house of Mr./ | Patrick O'Maille, M.P, in Maam
Valley. Co. Galway.
At dawn from a strongly en- trenched position the rebels open- ed the attack on the police, who | had but scaut cover. The latter replied vigorously, and the ex- change of shots went on contin-| uously for many hours.
It was not until the afternoon [that the police received reinforce- menta. A fierce attack was then made on the rebels, whose posi. tion was enfiladed.
Shortly afterwards the rebels took to the mountains. Their casualties were not ascertainable, but there were many blood marks in the vicinity of the position they had beld.
A search of two houses clase by showed evidence that they had been used for the purpose of ad ambush. These were burned to the ground.
During the fighting Constable Roylan, who was the father of |Eve children, was shot dead, and a sergeant and constable wounded.
