On the afternoon of May 15 Customs officers at hanghai were touring the s. Kiangfu from Hankow, and nine large trunks obstructed them. The trubks were firmly sealed. Upon inquiry, they learned that this luggage b longed to two military officers. And trus enough, a proud-looking man approached them and identi- fied his belongings. When the inspectors asked for a seards, the reply was: “No have got fag.” A passport was produced by him to prove his importance, but to

his secret. The inspectors then thought it better to search his pocket, and the key was discover- ed therein. Ona thousand pounds of opium -were subsogpantly brought out of the trunks.
