LLOYD'S REGISTER IN JAPAN.
National Committee Formed.
For many years Lloyd's Register has attempted to provide an adequate eclassification service for the shipping industry in Japan, sonding there experienced shipbuilders and engineers to ast ay surveyors and assist in the construction. of strong and seaworthy vessels for Japanese shipowners, also providing a similar service for Japanese ship-
owners
and underwriters at practically all ports in the world to which their ships may go.
Until now, however, the survey, ing arrangements in Japan have trad to be supervised entirely by the General Committeo of the Society in London, and owing to the great distance, the Gen- oral Committee have felt that they were not in as close touch with the shipping industry in Japan as they should be in order that Japan might obtain the full advantages which this world- wide organisation has to offer.
