A plentiful source of unclaimed maney is associated with railway companies who have ovidently acquired land for their railway works and do not know who is the legal owner of the land they used.
WASTED EFFORTS.
"The chances are." said a soli- citor whom the Star reporter found searching in the list, "that claimants spend three and four guineas, only to find out that they have no claim to the money,
"I know people, too, who havo spent as much as £10 or £15, and then discovered that the unclaimed sum wasa trifling amount, perhaps £5. 189. 70."
It is, of course, this list which has been responsible for many stories of unclaimed millions which have raised vain hopes in the breasts of poor people burie away in the country.
They see their surname quoted; they send half-guineas to agents to search records, and while the guineas go they are no nearer touching thousands, let alone millions, for the simple reason
