HONGKONG AND SHANGHAI BANK.

Corner Stone of New Building Laid.

Shanghai, May 5.

Bir Beilby Alston laid the corner stone of the new premises of the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank to-day. Sikh troopers escorted him from the Consulate to the Bank Several hundreds were present despite the rain. A mal- shed was erected over the speak- ers platform, which seated the Minister and Lady Alston, H.E. Sir Reginald (Governor of Bong- kong), Admiral Duff, Consul Gen- eral Fraser, Mr. H. Keswick, Mr. G. T. Edkins, Mr. John Johnstone, Mr. A. G. Stephen, Mr. Stikt, Mr. Borrell, Mr. Fox, Judge Skinner Turner, Mr. Brooke Smith and Many General Ho Fong Lin. nationalities were represented, a big derrick pulling the Allied flags aloft as the corner stone was laid.į
