WIRELESS RECORD AT SEA. A remarkable wireless record ras been set up by the new 1kw. quenched spark transmitting apparatus which is being in- troduced by the Marconi Interna- tional Marine Communication. Company as its standard equip- ment for ships at sea, and which has already been installed in a number of vessels. The guarante- ed working range of these sets is between 400 and 600 miles, according to the type of receiver in use, but the wireless operator on the Walmer Castle reports that when off Walfisch Bay, on the way to Cape Town, he was able to read signsis sent out by the Olympic when approaching Southampton and approximately 3,000 miles distant from the Walmer Castle. The Olympic, which is fitted with both quenched spark and long-distance con- tinuous wave. apparatus, using its spark set to communioste with Valentia coast station on a 600 metre wave length.

The operator of the Walmey Castle states that the Olympic's signals were strong ann steady, and he took down several messages in proof of his statement. Ris receiving apparatus consisted of a crystal receiver and Maroonk type 71 thres-valve amplifier
