Mr. Thomas and Mr. Gosling were present. Mr. Gosling, the leading spokesman, argued in favour of the miners' demands for a Na ional Board and a national minimum, which he claimed was already conceded to trans- port workers, He admitted that the coal industry was in a bad way and mentioned that the miners offered to accept a reduction equival ent to two shillings daily. He repudiated the suggestion that

Mr. Lloyd George said he had an uneasy feeling that the men at the head of the Miners' Federation were not the people who were directing the issues, but that there were others below forcing their hands by blind clamour.

Miners' Appeal to Prince of Wales.

London, April 14.

A striking direct appeal to the Prince of Wales to intervene in the goal crisis was made by four mine workers, ex-soldiers of Hirwaun South Wales, who on behalf of their fellow-workers addressed a letter to the Prinse pointing out that the wages they are offered range from 648.3d. to 46.94 for a six day week, white, owing to dinger, they are only able to work on an average five days weekly, and in the last few months only two or three days, in consquence of the slump it trade. They declare that if starvation compels them to accept these wages, they will be worse off than paupers. "Is this what we fought for? We ask you to help us, not to get a land fit for heroes, but a decent wage for a fair day's work."
