THE INDUSTRIAL FERMENT.
THURSDAY, APRIL 7. 1921.
London, April 6. The Transport Workers conference to-day decided to support the miners and immediately to negotiate with the railwaymen artd miners with a view to Triple Alliance action.
It is officially announced that Mr. Lloyd George has written to the President of the Mining Association and the Secretary of the Miners' Federation asking them to resume negotiations,
It is announced that Army leave in the United Kingdom has been stopped.
The miners' hope of getting unemployment dole has been dashed to earth by the courts of referees in Coalville, Pontypridd and Wigan dismissing their claims, which were regarded as test casos, in the appeal on behalf of miners.
It is noticed that all racing this week has been abandoned. The undermanager refused to Ceasa working the pumns at Cowdenheath near Dunfermline. He was captured and anverely mauled hy a mob of strikers and eventually rescued by a large force of police. The conflicts between police and strikers developed at midnight into a pitched battle. There wore many casualties. The strikers dislocated street lighting putting the town into darkness.

The Miners Federation have decided to meet the representatives, of the Government and mineowners.
MESOPOTAMIAN OIL FIELDS.
London, April 6.
Lord Curzon's reply to the United States Noto regarding the Mesopotamian oilfields cubled on the 26th November last is published in a whitepaper. It maintains the validity of the rights acquired by the British Government because before the war, the Turkish Government granted the lease of cilfields in the Mosul and Baghdad vilayets to the Turkish Petroleum Company, the capital whereof was Anglo- German. The German interests liquidated during the war are now allotted to the French Government in return for facilities whereby oil is enabled to reach the Mediterranean States. There was no intention through the Anglo-French agreement of discriminating against Americans in other materials. He contends that the British Group should not be deprived of the fruits of their outerprise on account of the war without which they would long since have been working the oilfields.

Mr. Solfridge will take up residence at the beginning of May. His present residence is in Portman-square, and he formerly leased Lord Yarborough's house ia Arlington-street.
