THE IRISH AMBUSH.

Further Details of the Affair.

London, February 25. Latest details of the ambush near Macroom show that the preparations for the attack ́were extensive. It is stated that the road was mined where the attack opened and that intense firing followed the first explosion. According to another account, the road was completely blocked by fallen trees, boulders and other obstacles, so the Police were forced to dismount and take cover. The attackers also used bombe.

After a lengthy battle, the attackers closed in on three sides, 336, 3rd & 405.00 compelling the police to retreat towards Macroom. A running fight continued till Macroom was practically in sight.

The dead and wounded are being brought to Macroom, which is in a state of alarm. All the inhabitants have been ordered into their houses.
