GERMANS IN DUTCH INDIES. ·

London, Jan. 25.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 29, 1941.

The "Morning Past" correspondentatAmsterdam saya that the news hat the Dutch Government contemplates sending two hundred German leachers to the Dutch Indias has produced uneasiness and is severely triticised in the press, owing to fears of Germaan influence. Writing In the "Telegraaf," Doctor Devrie Eifeyens remarks that two hundred German teachers would mean after twenty years eight hundred German men, and therefore as many propagandists of pan-German thought in the Dutch Colonies. He declares that Germany's desire for colonies is as keen as ever. A member of the Secont Chamber has requested an explanation of the Government's motives thereanent.

· THE PARIS CONFERENCE

London, Jan. 28. The optimism regarding the outcome of the Paris Conference is waning. Considerable surprise is expressed in London over the new French proposals. It is pointed out that whereas on the mast op | Xmistic estimate the German exports will amount to seventeen milliard gold marks annually, M. Doumer's suggestion would involve | payment of forty-two annuities of twelve milliards. The basis where an the Committee of Experts will proceed will be Belgium's com- promise proposals to fix the amount of the annuities, which may be increased according to German's capacity without determining the Lumber of annuities.
