A suspected Sina Fein attempt at arson On a large scale in: London has been foiled. A policeman on night bext encountered a man near a big timber yard in Finsbury and detained him. Suddenly he was set on by five others and a struggle ensued. The constable: was overpowered and all scaped. One was subsequently captured. after a half hour chase by dozens of policemen attracted by whistle blowing. Later, detectives found paraffin-soaked cotton-wool in the timber yard also a number of revolvers and oilcans alleged to have been dropped be the fugitives. The man arrested in connection with the attempted arson in a London timber yard was brought up at the Police Court. He is a student aged twenty, named Robinson. A police inspector gave evidence that documents relating to the Irish Self- Determination League and the Gaelic League were found in prisoner's rooms. No other evidence was offered and accused was remanded for a week without bail.
It is competently estimated that the loss by the Liverpool fres is three quarters of a million. The re brigades fought the dames magnificently and in most instances saved the buildings and the greater part of their contents. This morning thousands of tons of coton are smouldering. In Bootle three warehouses were gutted and the buildings collapsed. They contained fourteen thousand bales of cotton of which six thousand were ruined. Two six-storeyed ware- houses blazed face to face in Jordan Street and the Liverpool fremen
struck off, while, itu keine worked between walls of flames. In one warehouse two thousand
/
Disbales were destroyed and in the other seventeen-bundred bales of Kuwada, Shimomura, Oka, Kanai, cotton and several hundred bandles of hides. Tanaka and several other mem bers opposed the proposal. It is feared that a split may ensue among the members of the Association.
