ARCHBISHOP MANNIX,
HIS ARRIVAL IN ENGLAND.
Archbishop Mannix was landed at Penzance on August 9 from a British destroyer. He was taken joff the Baltic, off Queenstown, at midnight on Sunday, and was linformed that he would not be Allowed to land in Ireland or to Įvisit Liverpool, Mannix, and |Glasgow.
Dr. Mannis, it is stated, told! the commander of the destroyer that he refused to leave the vessel, but the officer, after trying in vain to persuade him, placed bia hand on his shoulder, and be then left the liner still protest- ingly.
A great crowd awaited the Arrival of the Baltic at Liverpool, but though great indignation WAS expressed at the action of the Government there was no dis- order.
Penzance, Aug. 9.-Dr. Maonix. the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne, was landed here at 4.15 this afternoon from a des- troyer, and later left by the 7.0 p.m. train for London.
According to information brought here it seems that the Baltic was stopped of Queen-| stown in the early hours of this morning, and the Archbishop was transferred to a destroyer, being! informed that the Government had prohibited his landing at Liverpool.
