ROLSHEVIKS WANT SPEEDY PEACE

London, September 2

It is reported from Warsaw that the Polish Foregin-Minister (Prince Sapiehs), in the course of an important statement to Anglo- American journalists, declared that the Government was convinced that the Bolsheviks were now anxious to make peace quickly. Both parties had agreed to try to secure a reasonable agreement as between equal parties, not as between victor and vanquished. He did not anticipate difficulties on territorial questions.

AN ENGINEERING CRISIS.

DISPUTE OVER EMPLOYMENT OF NON-USION POREMAN.

London. September 2. A crisis in the engineering trades bas arisen through an electricians' and employers dispute as to whether foremen must be members of the Electrical Trades Union. A foreman at Cammell, Laird's works at Sheffield resigned from the Union and the mea demanded bis dismissal failing his rejoining the Union. The employers refused to dismiss him and issued Tock-out notices for September 4. During the negotiations the Ministry of Labour inter- vened, but this evening a collapse in the negotiations was an- nounced. Consequently the employers' lock-out operates on Satur day.

The seriousness of the crisis is due to the fact that the electri- cians are key men for many industries. Consequently a prolonged tock-out will ultimately mean a stoppage of the whole engineering

industry.
