WORKERS GUILD TO BUILD "HOUSES.

An ambitious trade union scheme to build houses on the quiki praciple was launched in London recently.

The sponsors of the movement are the London District Council of the National Federation of Building Trade Workers.

Their proposal is to use the resouròms of their own organisa- tion to boil the houses so argently needed by the nation.

In the preliminary prospectus {{writes a "Daily Chronicle repro- sentative) a scheme is outlined for the formation of "The Gaild of Buildars (London) Limited,” and an appeal is made for valun- teers who will pledge themselves to carry out the, work of the guild.

60,000 WORKERS INVITED.

The prospectus will be put before all the building trade workers in London, numbering about 60,000, with an invitation to enrol as guildemen.

Attractive terms are ofered to the guild workmen. They will of course, receive full trade union rates of pay, and. in addition, it Į is stated,

as soon as it can be arranged they will be "put on the strength for tiles and receive pay in sick- ness or accident, in bad weather or in good, at work or in reserve. They are also promised “a new status a freeman, working in a democratic comradeship of ser- vice," and full control of the industry.

CONTROL OF INDUSTRY. Mr. W. Bradshaw, of the Na- tional Federation, told a Doily Chronicle representative that they regarded the scheme as the first step towards the attainment of the general control of industry by the workers.

*In our union, he said, “wel have architects, technicians and mechanics and all classes of workers whose labour is required for the erection of buildings of Jevery kind.

"We shall bave.po difficulty in obtaining the services of the "brain" workers, and we have also promises of support from the co-operative movement.

Our intention is to undertake contracts for bailding whether given by private or by public THE bodies, and we shall go on build- ----fing until the demand is satisfied. Later, an attempt will be made "Stamp forgers

AC work again," said an official of to develop the ides nationally. Messrs. Stanley Gibbons, Ltd.. The scheme will come before the the philatelic experts, to a Doily Building Trades Parliament in Chronicle representative.
