Ottawa, May 19. The Budget delivered in the Dominion Commons showed a glowing financial position. The Finance Minister stated that the excess in- ports over exporta for the five years ended March 1915 aggregated $525,000,000, while for the five years ended March 1920 the export- exceeded the imports by $1,803,000,000. Imports from the Mather Country last year increased by, $53,000,000 over the previous year. There has recently been an increase in importa from Great Britain, which last" Macch exceeded $25,000,000 constituting a record. The falling off of exports to Britain last year was due to cessation of the hage output of munitions of the previous year, but the greatest portion is shown to be already replaced The revenue last year registered a record, $288,600,406, and exceeded the ordinary expendi- ture, war interest, pensions for soldiers and re-establishment by $39,000,000. The currenry position showed that Canada was relative- -ly-in-an-exceedingly-strong-position,with-gold-ampanting-to-13-par- cent of the total circulation, compared with 67 per cent before the

Kerosene has revived, lumber is regaining its position slowly, and four will continu? so long as prices remain what they Dow are in the United States on! the one hand and as long as Australia (which is ja BOW furnishing the chief foreign supply of four) has a surplus, stock to export. The pro- spect really hinges upon the question of how much of the business the United States has secured during the war can be held under post-war conditions. In the solution world-wide com ditions naturally enter to a con- trolling extent. It may be that special conditions will prove of Tele-assistance. At present the ex-
