SEQUEL TO SHERIFF BURGLARY.
The Chief Justiça, Mr. Justice Gamparts, this morning presided over the Bankruptcy Court.
9. L. M. Sheriff, the managing partner of
Brothers, Sheriff jawellers, applied to be adjudicat- fed à bankrupt.
The bankrupt in his public examination, said the business commanced in 1907 and there were four partners. The business was originally started in Ceylon, and the partners were This brothers. The capital was | Rs. 30,000, and the partners had equal shares. When he first started business here the premises! were in Kowloon, He removed to Hongkong nine years ago. The capital was increased by $10,020, and the extra capital came from his father. This was in the nature of a gift to his sons. He began to borrow money after he bought a Japanese shop! five or six year ago. He borrow- ed $2,000 or $3,000 occasionally. He owed Wang Hing $20,000 and this was borrowed gradually. Mr. Ruttonjee was also a creditor to the extent of $1,200, and this was borrowed a week before the bank- ruptcy petition. He pledged the goods to Mr. Ruttonjae as securitș. Mr. Greenfield Was
also
a creditor. When bankrupt bad to get money he used to go to Mr. Greenfield, Mr. Greenfield brought an action for $8,000.

The $3,800. balance was not pajd, but Mr. Greenfeld had goods to the value. These goods were handed to Mr. Greenfield last year. He still had the goods. A borglary. took place at the shop last year in December. He last some $7,000 and American double eagles to the extent of $16,000. Bankrupt never struck a balance, and did? not know how he stood before the bankruptcy. He first failed to meet bis obligations in December last He drew. $30 to $40 for pocket expenses. He paid house. hold expenditure daily.
31. Lhurd, the Official Receiver, said he was applying for adjudication. Mr. Percy Smith had consented to act and to charge the usual court scale of fees.
