HONGKONG'S WAR CONTRIBUTION MENTIONED,

London, April 19.

In the course of his Butiget speech, Mr. Chamberlain said the Income Tax and super-tax had produced £3,000,000 and the Death Duties £7,500,000 above the Estimate. The Excess Profits Tax yielded a surplus of £10,000,000 over the reduced estimate of October, 1919, but there was a deficiency compared with the Budge: Estimate. This, however, was only a question of delayed payment. The Stamp Duties were again a record, yielding £19,500,000 over the Estimate. Miscellaneous Revenue exceeded the original Estimate by £71,000,000 and the October Estimate by £130,000,000. Ordinary Miscellaneous Revenue was £9,500,000 over the Estimate, Under Special Miscellaneous Revenue, the war contributions from India and the Colonies were increased by £10,000P00, due to a further pas ment of £9,000,000 by India on account of her voluntary liability for £100,000,000 of the 5 per cent. War Loan and war contributions from the Straits, Hougtong and Guernsey.
