Their appeals however are futile. The President is immovable and says the Treaty must be ratifed without reservations or it is a dead better as far as the leited States is evnerned.

FUTURE OF HOG ISLAND.

Washington. March

Mr. Payne, head of the Shipping Board, announces its readiness to receive tenders for the sale of Hog Island where the Government built an extensive shipyard in war time. The last ship laid down will not be launched before mid-September. It is suggested that Pennsylvania or Philadelphia should purchase and contert Hog Island into a great shipping terminal.

Washington. March 7. The Associated Press understands that the Railroad Unionists have agreed to give the new Railroad Law a trial as a means to secure a settlement of their wages demands. Thus the danger of a general strike is averted.
