The facts are not far to seek and are sufficiently convincing in their appalling simplicity. Twoj million children die every year in India; wbile in Bombay alone? thirty-five children die during the course of every twenty-four hours. This beautiful Eastern one of the most terrible graveyards in the world for child life; and a very brief study of the following! table will serve to show that the rest of the Presidency though not. happily, in the same serious pcs- ition as the Capital, yet leaves; very much to be desired as re- gards the conditions of child- hood.

The War Office reports that on Feb. 25 Bolsheviks ai- vancing on Stavropol were thrown back, ten miles. Astride the Tsaritsin Ekaterinudar Railway, "Red" cavalry were forced back with heavy losses. CHINA TO-DAY.
London, Feb. 25.
The explorer Doctor Geil, interviewed on his return from China, where he has been studying the five Holy Peaks, emphasised that the Chinese had immensely progressed to wards modern civilisation in recent years. He declared the Joung Chinese were crazy to learn English. The Chinese were becoming more and more kindly disposed towards English-speaking visitors. There was also a strong new movement among all classes in favour of Christianity. On the contrary the number of pilgrims to the sacred mountains was anually decreasing. The old gods were falling into decay. He regretted that since prohibition in America strong efforts were being made to transfer the liquor trade to China.
