On Jan. 15 the Eighteenth Amendment to the American Constitution, imposing Permanenti Prohibition. comes into force throughout the United States. Owing to war-time Prohibition the country is almost dry already, but enforement will in future be simpler because temporary legal difficulties now lapse.
Prohibition does not make it an offence to possess and imbibe alcoholic liquor. But you may not import it, manufacture it or sell it With the trade thus destroyed priveze, stocks will be [depleted. and consumption, especially by the rising genera- tion, will become negligible.
The powerful Anti-Saloon League will continue active. It will fight every effort to rescind the Eighteenth Amendment-ad- almost impossible operation.
