According to information received by the members of the Portuguese Asso- ciation of Kobe there will be six passenger vessels on the Eastern route and six cargo-boats. Among the passenger vessels are the Balaw, 9,000 tons, the Prinz He- inrich. 7,000 tons, the Mark. 7,009 tons, and the Koenig Albart, 11,000 tons. These vessels were used formerly by the Germans in their Pacific trade and are well known to most Japanese shippers. The passenger and cargo-boats will alternate in their calls at Japanese ports and it is expected to maintain a fortnightly service between Portugal and Japan. Assurances have already been made by one Japanese syndicate that it will take all freight space on these steamers for about one year. between Japan and Portugal. ELECTRIC SHIP PROPULSION.

The same system is also applicable whero Diesel engines are used as prime- mover.
