the Ellis Kadoorie: School at Sookunpoo Valley took place to-day at noon. The prizes. were given away by the Hon. Mr. Claud Severa, C.M.G. Interested visitors at the proceedings were Sir Ells Kadoorie and Mr. A. F. Arculli. Owing to indisposition.. Mr. R* J. Birbeck, the Head- master, was unable to attend and his place was taken by Mr. A. R. Cavalier, Inspector of Vernacular Schools.

At Happy Valley this morning was seen what was perhaps the largest attendance of the present training season, and a great many ponies were given gallops over various distances. Both courses were in use, the condition of the grass track favouring the making of good times. Below will be found the recorded times of 72 ponies. The feature gallop of the morning was that of Mr. John Peel's Pile Driver, which is al- read a fall mite and a half in 'S congratulations to Mr. Sevem on ready the fancied Derby entry.
