THE PEACE TREATY.

Washington, Jan, 9.

The Democratic National Committee unanimously passed a resolution denouncing the attitude of the Senators in opposing ratification of the Peace Treaty and the arrogant Republican leadership in the Senate, which has earned the contempt of the world. The Com- mittee calls on the Senate to quit playing at politics with the ratification of the Treaty.

The Committee passed a resolution repudiating the idea that America, having joined her associates in war, could withdraw and leave them to a merciless fate in order that she might maintain the so-called traditional state of isolation which she abandoned when she went to defend her rights and aid struggling humanity.

THE TREATY RATIFIED.

London, Jan. 11,

Replying to a loyal message from the citizens of London on the occasion of the exchange of ratifications, the King telegraphed to the Lord Mayor: "With all my heart I reciprocate their hopes and fervently pray that, please God, this day may be the dawn of a new era in which the people of the British Empire may forever live at peace with itself and with all then."

REPATRIATION FROM SIBERIA,

The Shipping Bourd is furnishing vessels to re- patriate Uzecho Slovan, Polish, Yugo Slay and Rumanian troops now in Siberia. The steamers President Grant and America are sailing for Vladivostock, being due there on 10th. Feb. The vessels are expected to make repeated trips, transporting ten thousand monthly. Thus the United States and the Allies will discharge their obliga- tion to these troops for their war services.

STEAMER SUNK.

New York, Jan. 9.

The steamer Louisville, formerly St. Louis, was badly. damaged by fire at Hoboken and was scuttled in order to subdue the flames.

AMERICAN DEMOCRATS.

Washington, Jan. 9. It is definitely decided that the Democratic National Convention will be held in San Francisco.

THE SILVER MARKET.

London, Jan. 12.

Messrs. Montagu's report states that the market is steary in tone, although supplies are fairly plentiful. The fact that quotations bere are well below those of New York naturally militates against any considerable setback.

Mess:s. Montagu's Annual Bullion Letter mentions the report that legislation is about to be introduced in the United States releasing the Government from its obligation to repurchase at a dollar an ounce the fine equivalent of the silver dollars sold under the Pittman Act, extending the provisions of the Act to a further quantity of dollars, possibly ninety million, and reducing the quality of the subsidiary silver coinage from nine hundred to eight hundred fine. It points out that the market is accustomed to regard forty-six pence an ounce, roughly a dollar a fine ounce at normal exchange, as the bedrock price for many years to come, and the cancella tion of the United States mint's instruction to repurchase would remove this element of stability,

Following some very even up and down field play the Chinese right wing brought off a nicely combin ed movement which was beauti- fully crossed, but Toms negotiat- ed the pass in Rugby fashion and from ensuing penalty South China were one up, to the usual demon- stration. The Navy buckled to their work in the second half and South China's defence had a busy time, but the game was very close hereabouts, and with trifle more steadiness South China would have scored. Navy halves were holding the China forwards, however, and a nice pass forward to McCarthy sAW this forward right through the defence with B fine goal. which performance he repeated Just after Bryant completed South China's discomfiture with another good effort, and although the locals made desperate efforts to score in the closing stages, they could not beat Hayward and his backs.

Considering that the Nary played four men of the Reserve eleven. their performance was a good one and there is no doubt the team on present form is a hard one to beat. Hayward and Amey played very finely and Toms, Radford, McCarthy and Niles

were great workers. South China had a lot of the game but were obviously the upset when they found opposition so steady and were too prone to part with the ball when a dash through individually would have spelt success. Ip Kao, Au Kit Sang, Kwok Po Kun, Leung Dai Fung and the backs were the pick of a rather erratic lot who showed a lot of good football at times."

first incidents of note in the second half were same very poor aftempts by the Kowloon inside forwards to score and a nice break-away by Recreio's inside! right, who beat the defence, but! was too slow. Millard completed the round half dozen and Recreio retired com paratively lightly beaten on the run of play, which favoured Kowloon much more than the score indicates.

The losers were cutclassed all round although Brittow did well in goal. where he had-emple chances of exercising himself, but the team was altogether toe light and slow for the well balanced Kowloon side. Kow- loon had so much of the play that their poor patches were more or less excusable. Hyder and his backs are very strong, but the Kowloon halves, with the exception of Van Langenberg, are poor placers, albeit they play very hard game, and spare themselves nothing. Mitchell was subjected to very unsporting bar- racking from the crowd, or a small section, but these latter should not forget to applaud good work also, and in this respect they would help the game. The referee is the best judge of illegal points in the game. The forward line of Kowloon is. nicely balanced, being extremely fast and com bines well. Rasmusson is a hard working leader. If they pick up their chances they will be hard to beat and the game with Navy Reserves, which will be practical- ly the final for the League. should be a keen fight, with very I little in the result.
