One of the bravest deeds in American Navy annals was commemorated when the destroyer Marcus was launched in San Francisco. A years ago, off Cavite, after anexplosion aboard the submarine U-7, Lieutenant Arnold Marcus, in command, beached the craft and saved the crew, though fatally burned himself. His widow, Helen Cowles Marcus of San Francisco, christened the new destroyer, and the ceremony was attended by his mother, Lady Frank Popham-Young, wife of the "retiring Governor-General of India.
