A good deal of dissatisfaction is again being expressed in manufacturing circles in Great Britain at the absence of trade marks and patent law in China. and at the inefficiency of existing regulations between Great Britain and Japan as they apply to China trade. The grievance is an old оде. Little practical effort is being made to remedy conditions, and it is difficult to get reliable information

to any measures contemplated. From time to. time instances of special hardship to British mann- facturers receive special publicity, and for a period a good deal of Press comment is centred on the matter, which then again passes into comparative oblivion. So far as trade marks law is concerned, the difficulty to be overcome is well known.. It consists in the fact that both China and Japan seek to adopt the principle of priority of rezistration, whereas
